    Asshole bike racers(long)

This is a long message from the NE list:

I just want to inform everyone that the Monson Road Race will no longer be held due to a variety of incidents that occurred this past weekend. You should also be aware that the incidents that I am referring to are a direct result of many of the racers themselves. Unfortunately, their inconsideration and inability to respect the town and community has resulted in the Chief of Police denying any further request to hold this race in
    Monson.

I have just been informed by the Town Selectmen that the Monson Road Race will no longer be approved due to several reasons: (1) Unsafe warming up on the race course. Many racers thought they could warm up on the course prior to their event, forcing cars toward oncoming racers. You were warned not to warm up on the course, yet many of you disregarded this announcement and it resulted in unsafe conditions and one of the main reasons for the denial of future events here. (2) Many riders off the back of the main pack felt that the entire road was now theirs. Again, this resulted in very unsafe conditions and traffic backups. The Police felt that these straggling riders were unprotected since they seemed to be riding all over the road.

As many of you know, it is very difficult promoting bike races. I have strived to provide the best racing conditions possible, trying to create optimal racing conditions for everyone. After eight years of putting on the
Monson race, it is my extreme displeasure to announce that it is over. I think that we, as conscientious racers, need to be more aware of our surroundings when we race. We do not own the town when we race there for a few hours, and need to be aware of the communities who are kind enough to allow us to utilize their roads. Unfortunately, Monson will no longer be one of those communities, but you have only yourselves to thank for that.

Please be aware of what you do and how you conduct yourselves at future events or else Monson will not be the last to begin denying events. As is usually the case, it is the actions of a few who ruin many things for the majority. For those of you who raced responsibly in Monson this year and in years past, thank you.

This is from Mike Norton a NEBRA board member and promoter of several races here.
This has become a huge issue here with several races in serious danger. All you fuckheads need to wake up and stop blaming everyone but yourselves. You have a huge chunk of the responsibility whether the races continue to happen.

I think you're talking about those plastic cages with the o-ring spring holding the arms together. I've used them for some time, but I find a couple of problems:

    1) The channel in which the attachment bolts are placed doesn't have sufficient room for washers and most of the available water bottle holder screws don't have sufficient head diameter to not eventually pull through.

    2) They are kind of dorky looking and perhaps just a tad on the heavy side.

    3) And for the price of them you can get more stylish cages.

But neither have I ever lost a bottle from one of them.

Would you please communicate that idea to Justices Atonin Scalia and John
    Holmes? Thanks.

I'm remined of the collegiate nationals RR in 1991 in Washington
State. We're watching the women finish and then we all rush out into the road to line for the men's race. OK. Not so bad.

But there was a crash in the women's race with about 1K to go, so an ambulance is back there dealing with it. Finally the ambulance starts to roll -- towards us to get to the hospital. So most of us get off of the road. But one dickhead and his teammates just move over rather than getting completely out of the way. I tell the guy to get off the road. He says "Why? it can squeeze through." Nice -- make an ambulance carrying an injured competitor slow down to squeeze through so you don't lose a place on the start of an 80 mile road race. Real nice. So I tell the guy again, he refuses, I call him an asshole, he tells me I probably suck on the bike. I say "That's right and you're still an asshole."

Were you at GMSR (Green Mt. SR, Vermont) last year? At the start of the circuit race, many of us had lined up 10 minutes early to get a good position, (because it started on a climb) and then the race start was delayed another 10 minutes or so. So here we are, the whole peleton lined up and listening to the pre-race instructions, when Genevieve and her Rona team show up, fresh from their warm-ups in their private parking area, and proceed to take a spot in *front* of the start line. Officials didn't even bat an eye. Small potatoes, compared with safety violations and such, but annoying nonetheless. This wasn't even an NRC race, and they were the only pro team there, so they already had quite an advantage over the rest of us amateurs.

was plugging his book. As I recall, Stewart mentioned something about FOX having an agenda, and the guest quickly corrected him noting that there is a difference between an agenda and a "point of view". Then Stewart

Anyway, I thought it was nice to see that comparison made between Al
Jazeera and the "fair and balanced" FOX.

great idea, that'll get us more safe raod venues... DUH.
    threaten a lawsuit...

which will breed *so* much cooperation and a stronger desire to help out a sport that is all ready a head ache in their eyes. *NOT*

Since when is it a local police chief/city govornment's job to facilitate bike races? Sure we love em, yea we want more access, but where is it written that we (as a community) have greater rights than any other tax payer just cause we want to race on the city streets?

In summery, nice attitude, I'm sure it really will help. Maybe you need to go back to DH or Freeride where it sounds like you belong.
