8S Power link: black or silver?

I want to connect a 8 S Shimano chain and found a black Sachs and a silver colored SRAM link. Can I use either one for a 8S Shimano chain?

A friend who works in a bike shop brought me a couple of loose
Sachramdis chains (no packaging) a few years ago. The 'powerlink' in one bag was black; the other chain had no powerlink. I don't know the source or maker of the black 'powerlink,' but it looked and acted like other powerlinks.

I used it, 8 speed gearing, without any problems. Opened and closed cleaning, etc. Never broke, worked fine. Packaged replacement chains since then have all come with silver powerlinks.

Use the black and carry the silver along as a back up?

I asked me LBS today and they told me to use a silevr one. They demonstrated how easy this was and it took them 10 minutes before they could link it together :-)

I think the Wipperman links are easier to use then the SRAM one's.
