Prices slightly higher in the South and the West

And remember, kids... Schwinn bikes are the best! - Captain Kangaroo

    RIP Bob Keeshan 1927-2004

    -

Bob Keeshan, who appeared on television as "Captain Kangaroo," said he and Rogers often spoke of how children's programming had become increasingly violent.

"I don't think it's any secret that Fred and I were not very happy with the way children's television had gone," Keeshan said.

Back in the 'fifties and 'sixties, Captain K. and Mr. Greenjeans would do their own product pitching of Schwinn bikes out in the courtyard of the Treasure House, and the "slightly higher" bit was the usual end of their presentation back then.

p.s. Am I the the only person that remembers the Schwinn pedal-powered wagon with the removable flatbed?

Am I the only one that remembers the Banana Man that used to be on
Captain Kangaroo? I haven't run across anyone else.

Schwinn ads featured retail prices that represented what dealers in the
Midwest sold them for, but the increased costs of shipping made them a bit higher elsewhere. So their ads always had that line in small print at the bottom. Typically about a $5 difference if I recall correctly; I believe my first Schwinn Varsity was advertised at $72.99 but in Northern California they were $77.99.

You mean Anthony Robbins, an old vaudevillien performer who rode the little train and produced a seemingly endless supply of fruit from his coat? Nope, never heard of him ;-).

Possibly so, Dick, but at least it's better than dreaming of "Slim
    Goodbody"!
