Thread: Ceramic pads on Al rim?

    Ceramic pads on Al rim?

I was recently told by an Avid brake representative to use ceramic brakes on my aluminum rims to eliminate brake squeal. He also sent a pair of gray ceramic pads for my Avid Shorty 4 brakes.

I installed them the other day, and sure enough the sqeal is gone. My question is.....is this compound too hard for aluminum Mavic Open Pro rims, and will/may eventually result in premature wear, or other problems?

they're definitely harder and in my opinion, minimally less effective on a normal [non-ceramic] rim. but it's not a significant issue and they should be fine.

maybe they'll wear slightly faster, but is that a fair tradeoff for silent operation? that's your call!
