I'm actually watching this thing right now. Can't believe how awful it is.
The overblown rhetoric, the surging music, a total lack of coherence.

Sample from just seconds ago: "... a mountain stage leading to the judge and jury of careers -- Alpe d'Huez."

The network coverage has always been focused on a simplistic GC battle. They are worried about confusing the audience and they are sadly correct.

Ugh, don't tell me they had a SOUNDTRACK! Like you won't be able to watch it without some sappy techno music. Does everything have to be a fucking rock video?

I remember NBC's wretched Sydney coverage, of the women's triathlon. OF course, it was the day after it actually happened, and to add insult to injury, they had a musical soundtrack playing underneath it. I'd already watched the event live on CBC, and I thought, "what the hell is this, figure skating? We need music??"

Thank goodness for CBC, although some creeping "up close and personal" crap is beginning to infect their coverage of the Olympic Games and various World
Championships.

They are leagues ahead of USA coverage--CBC still knows that the important thing is to point a camera at the event and show what is happening instead of the pablum that US based networks show.

You're right though, their coverage of the commonwealth games was terrible this year. Usually they cover everything, but this year it was just a couple of hours and they barely showed more than a few minutes of anything. Track was nearly invisible, track cycling nearly forgotten, and yep,lots of dumb sappy profiles. And worse, the men's time trial was preempted by the POPE who was visiting toronto at the time and doing this huge Popealooza. I was furious at the CBC for running that gaudy atrocity.

now why isn't CBC available in U.S. markets? If we can buy Canadian drugs, why not subscriptions to Canadian tv channels? Besides all the other TV stations you can subscribe to?
