Bike SET - 2002/02/04 14:00 Does anybody out here have a two setter bike set? One set that can hold two persons?
Like many bikes from the 70's had on them.
But not a child bicycle set. Something that can carry grown riders.
Please let me know by E mail....thanks

re:Bike SET - 2002/02/04 16:55 Now that I think back, I did see a funky saddle on a cruiser in my LBS back when I bought my mountain bike. It looked like a normal giganto-soft cruiser saddle, but it has another "tail" attached to the back of the thing. Was this a banana saddle? The thing looked like it weighed as much as my new bike did, but my dad said it was comfy.

re:Bike SET - 2002/02/04 22:41 No, I think he's looking for a set, err seat, that two people can sit on. Of course, that's dangerous and illegal.

re:Bike SET - 2002/02/04 23:56 By George, I think you've decoded it!

Jeff: I think what you're looking for is what used to be called a
"banana seat" and was supported in back by a bar connected to the rear axle, sometimes rising above the seat ("sissy bar.") You can find them here: http://www.lovelylowrider.com/kits.asp

If Mike and I are wrong, and you're looking for a "bicycle built for two", the common name is a "tandem."

re:Bike SET - 2002/02/05 02:35 Can be, but there are things like the Xtracycle that are designed, among other things, to serve as a passenger-seat:

http://www.xtracycle.com/html/freeradical.php

The manufacturer warrants and approves its use as such:

http://www.xtracycle.com/html/faq.php#32

They claim a 200 pound cargo capacity, and this is a rather radical solution to the seat problem of the original poster, but it would seem to work. They even have optional foot rests for sale.

I think the poster was inspired by the banana seats of yore, but I don't know of anything quite like that for the adult market (they weren't really for carrying two people, but more for making one bike more likely to fit a growing child for a longer time).
