re:Campy Ergo's with Ultegra drivetrain?

I'm building up a road bike and will probably go with Ultegras for the price/performance. However, I've heard that Ultegra STI's are poorly made and fall apart after a year or two, or at least become really pokey, and can't really be fixed. (If this is not true, or if Shimano has beefed up the
Ultegras in recent years, please let me know.)

So I'm wondering if it's possible to go with Campy Ergo's

With the price of DA 10 STI said to be ~$400, has anyone tried to use
ERGO 10 brifters to index 10 speeds cassettes successfuly using a
Shimano RD? I know the linkage geometry is different but maybe we can luck out. And with the 20% off code, you can probably buy a Record
ERGO for ~$200. Please don't tell me to buy a cheapo Campy RD to make this work.
