I am currently putting together the pats list for a new bicycle. While I was planning around the Ultegra group, I was pointed to Avid's road type mechanical disc brakes, for which I found some rather positive reviews.
As I would want to use this bike also for traveling, this is an interesting option. From what I gathered, these brakes are compatible with the Ultegra brake/shift levers.

re:Go Triple or Just Change Rear Cassette?

The easiest combination on my road bike is a 39 teeth on front and 23 teeth on rear.

How different woud a change to a triple on front be to a change to a 27 tooth cassette on the rear be?

Question on Shimano Bar End Shifters

Just got a set of these. The box says they are 9 speed, but I can only hear/feel 8 distinct positions (excluding pushing the lever to it's extremes where it bumps into the housing). What am I missing? The enclosed manual also say it should only be used with a Dura Ace rear deraileur. I assume this is marketing to sell more Dura Ace, and not a hard requirement.
