re:How to make my cheap bike faster...cheaply

Written by Sarcastic Apostle

I have a Trek 1000 (2001) all stock. Yes it is LOWWWW end everything, but it has served it's purpose thus far.

I race recreationaly in non-drafting races, sprint triathlons mostly.

I want to make my bike faster, but not spend more than I spent on the actual bike. (Yes, I am working on making myself faster)

I'm looking at getting Performance Titan wheels which are lighter, more aero, are less

Quoted from a online dealer:

"American Classic Hubs-a stronger wheel. American Classic rear hubs are different than our competitors hubs. Our flange spacing is narrower than ordinary hubs. You'd think this would make the wheel weaker, but instead it makes the wheel sturdier. The drive side flange is as close as possible to the sprockets for the best triangulation. Our non-drive flange is closer t

Ok, so we've pretty well beaten the weight issue to death, with the conclusion of it really doesn't matter that much - a 500g saving is a 500g saving, but the fact that its on the wheels instead of the frame (or drink bottle, or pump, or me) doesn't make any real difference.

I just went to put my old Cateye Mity 3 computer on my new bike and was wondering how to attach the spoke magnet to a single flat spoke? I have
Bontrager Race X-Lite Aero rims. Do I just center the magnet and screw it on? On the old bike it was placed just above the crossing of the two round spokes. What is everybody else with bladed spokes using?

Building a set of wheels, components are:
Record 10 hubs
DT Competition 14-18 & aluminum nips.
Mavic Open Pro "SUP" "CD" "Maxtral" one of these means black anodized 32 holes.

Lacing is 2 cross front 3 cross rear. Drive side nipples are brass.

Used The Book, and on the front wheel I got very high tension, to the point that the nipples are difficult to turn. After stress reliving per book

odd rim profiles

What's the rationale/aerodynamics behind some of the odd rim profiles available?
Specifically, the cutaway between the spoke holes on the Ksyriums and the inverted cross-sectional curve of Alex R390 rims (pic at
