re:Cassette making notches in aluminum freehub body In category Tech issues Written by GrassDragon Using a cassette with loose cogs has put nasty notches in my aluminum freehub body. I have successfully filed them down, but I'd like to prevent this from continuing. If I use a cassette (like Ultegra 8spd) that has the larger cogs riveted together, will this spread the force over a larger area than just the driven cog, and thus be less likely to deform the hub?

When I first bought the bike, the hub was done up so tightly that it produced a significant amount of friction. I've spent many many hours trying to tweak the hub but I can never get it perfect: it's either a little too tight (so the wheel doesn't spin smoothly) or it's too loose (so there's a tiny amount of play).
