I have a Cannondale with - unfortunately - a 1 1/4" headset size. After phoning virtually every bike shop in Britain, I managed to find an XT cartridge bearing headset for it when the original headset wore out, plus an extra set of cartridge bearings. As these are now (to the best of my knowledge) irreplaceable, is there any way to clean and regrease the cartridges? I've never touched the spare

I wanted to get the indexing out of my headset, but did not want to take the time to install a new one.
I read this trick in the Complete Guide to Bicycle
Maintenance and Repair, not my favorite book, but the only place I have read this trick.

I removed my front wheel, brake cable, and computer wire, and loosened the stem bolt (threaded stem).
Then I spun the fork around 360 degrees a few times.

Help With Galli Headset?

Hello. I just got a frame which has a Galli roller bearing headset on it. I wonder if anyone can give me some info about it? Specifically, I would like to remove the rollers (in their cages) so that I can get a look underneath at the race surfaces, clean, and re-grease. I suspected that the cages would easily drop out but this does not seem to be the case. I don't want to apply too much force and

Several of my bikes over the years came with el-cheapo-bastardo headsets (much lower quality than the '105 you had) which I said I'd get around to upgrading when they wore out. Trouble is, even the very cheapest headset, when properly adjusted, will take forever to wear out. If I had a headset that wore out in less than 30k miles, I don't remember it.

The key is adjustment. Most (nearly all?)
