Frame Spacing Question

I have an old Raleigh International (circa 1975). I measured the frame and the hub that has always been on the bike with a caliper and now I'm confused. The space between the dropouts was 124 mm. The space between the spacers on the hub was about 122.5 mm. The bike came equipped as a five speed which is normally 120 mm.

Was the bike mis-equipped ?

Did the frame dropouts spread over time ?

The last club ride I went on was about three months ago. I was worried about wether I'd be on form to keep up but fortunately I did alright. That is, until on our way back *this* happened:

Has anyone had bad experiences with bike shops, theres this little biek shop down the road, its been there for over 30 years, and a friend broke a axel on his bike, so we went in to get a new one, the guy we talked to said it would be better to just buy a whole new rim.
For $45, that didnt sound right so we left. A little while before that
I went in and asked what they had for low end dual suspens

Swapping out Ultegra for Record 10 w/ FSA crank

My new bike came with FSA Carbon Pro Team Issue cranks and Shimano
Ultegra. I want to swap out the Ultegra for the Record 10 on my old bike. Anyone know if the cranks are compatible? I couldnt' find any info on the FSA Web site.

I wanted to get the indexing out of my headset, but did not want to take the time to install a new one.
I read this trick in the Complete Guide to Bicycle
Maintenance and Repair, not my favorite book, but the only place I have read this trick.

I removed my front wheel, brake cable, and computer wire, and loosened the stem bolt (threaded stem).
Then I spun the fork around 360 degrees a few times.

my bike came new with these Alex MX18 rims

The interior width is 18mm, and the exterior width is 24mm.

The rim came paired new with Kenda 1.95" tires (49.5mm)... which, according to Georg Boeger's chart, would be way out of match. (recommended 26mm-42mm)

Are biopace cranks different from normal cranks or is it just that the chainrings are differently shaped. In other words, if I buy some NOS XT

LBS vs. Mail Order

I just re-built a set of wheels with new rims and spokes for the first time. I had to replace the back because a spoke pulled through. So I did the front so it would match. Wheel building was a blast...I love it !

However, there is another point to this story. Three years ago I took the wheels in for truing. My local LBS told me that the front rim was so damaged that they could not true it p
