Has anyone ever managed to get over 3,000 miles out of a performance tire?

Hey guys, I got to thinking. What have been the biggest arguments around?

Helmets?
Aero wheels?
Frame flex/comfort/materials?
Campy vs. Shimano?

Can you think of any that I've missed?

My sister was in a race in last month during which the temperature went from about 60 degrees in the morning to 95 degrees in the mid-afternoon.

The bike techs were pumping tires up to full pressure, but a friend advised her to drop the pressure to about 125 psi from her usual 175 psi due to the anticipated heat. (PV=nRT, I suppose).

I'll be doing some light touring later this summer in similar

Has anyone ever come across the concept of "maturing" tires i.e.
leaving them for a period of time before using them - the idea being that they are less susceptible to punctures and cuts.

The reason why I ask this is that at the start of the year I put on an new pair of Continenal Grand Prix foldable tires (which are no longer manufactured) on my bike. The tires had been in storage in my shed for

re:Recommended high-volume floor-type bicycle pumps?

Our trusty floor bicycle pump is falling apart after many years of use, mostly for maintaining automobile tire pressure.

So, I'm looking to replace it with a *high-volumetric-capacity* floor-type hand bicycle pump.

What brands/models are recommended based on durability/reliability, volumetric capacity, accuracy of built-in pressure gauge, etc.?

[Note that I am NOT interested in a portable car

I was wondering if three dollars more for kevlar tires are worth it? Does your mileage increase, and do you have fewer flats. I ride between 100 and
150 miles per week. I have a mountain style bike which I use for exercise, but also use it for grocery shopping. Probably the heaviest thing I carry would be two loaded panniers, and a watermelon. My current back tire lasts about 1000 miles. I do not

re:Electric tire pumps?

Just wondering why there don't seem to be any commercially available electric air pumps for bike tires. The convenience is obvious and I imagine that even with a digital pressure guage and a way to cutoff the air after a given pressure is reached, it shouldn't be that expensive. Given that tires often lose pressure between rides, this seems like a product that a lot of people would appreciate and

re:bike tires always lose pressure

I ride my bike (Magna) no more than once/week. Before I ride, I check the tire pressure. The tires are rated for 65 psi, but they always tend to be low at least 15 psi every time. I always use an air compressor to pump it back up to 65 psi.

I'm curious. Does this happen to your tires, whether you have a road bike, dirt bike, or touring bike?

re:what's a good cheap pump?

it doesnt have to be portable at all... a standing home pump would be fine my tires are rec at 56psi.. so something that can handle 80-90 would be good built-in gauge would be nice, but NOT necessary

with those requirements, what is the cheapest/best value pump that i can get?

re:Delayed pinch flat

The whole conversation about glueless patches and proper patching technique got me thinking about my experience with delayed pinch flats. For example, in my most recent experience, my poorly performed bunny-hop over a bad bridge joint (dark/10W Niterider) landed my back wheel on an edge. I was sure I'd hear the *hiss*, but no, and I glanced back to see if the rim was reasonably straight at the n
