re:mounting fenders on bike with cantilever brakes In category Tech issues Written by abbsci420 I'm getting a new cyclocross bike that I will also use occasionally as a winter trainer. I'm going to want to mount SKS fenders on this bike, and it just occurred to me that I won't have a rear brake bridge (or drilled front fork crown). I can have eyelets put on the dropouts...what else do I need to do to mount the fenders? I'd prefer not to create a ziptie monster!
re:Need fitting advice In category Tech issues Written by abbsci420 After more than ten years of mountainbiking (and lurking on r.b.t for the better part of those ten years) I hit the road two years ago, first with a '96 Klein Quantum II (53 cm c-t), and the last year a '00 Cannondale Cyclocross (52 cm c-t). I opted for a cyclocross because I wanted to try and see if I could use the same bike for road racing (masters fattie, I'm afraid...) and this country's top
135mm hybrid rear hub/cassette question In category Tech issues Written by jojophoophoo 1st, thanks for the help with the stripped crankbolt. I am taking an older C-Dale hybrid frame (700 c wheels)and setting it up as a cyclo-cross/beater bike. The rear chain-stays are 135mm. My plan is to us an Ultegra Front/Rear Der. and 9 speed bar-end shifters. My question is to the hub/cassette for this. Can I put a 9 speed road cassette (say 12-26) on a 135mm rear Mtn (prob. Deore XT) hu
Building a Hybrid In category Tech issues Written by Teran I am building a hybrid/city bike out of a Cannonade XR800 cyclocross frame and have a couple of questions. I would like to use the Ultegra triple (FC-6503) crank, the Ultegra FD-6503 Front Derailleur, RD 6500-GS rear, Ultegra 9 speed cassette, and Deore XT ST-M760 dual control levers. Are the Deore levers compatible with the Ultegra derailleurs? (I want to use a straight bar). If not, is there a
Help me decide on a great commuter bike In category Tech issues Written by jellyphisher I'm in the process of trying to put together (or buy if there's one available) a great commuter/bad weather bike. I intend to use it mostly for commuting (12 miles each way in reasonably hilly terrain--takes me about 45-50 minutes), especially in rainy weather. When the weather is nice and the roads are clear, I'll probably ride my road bike instead. My 54cm Trek 5200 fits me like a glove, so I'
re:TT frame for road use? In category Tech issues Written by manny15 I've been lurking here for a few years, and am now making my first road frame purchace. I ride mostly weekends, to and from school, and sometimes after school (time permitting...), and hope get in some road races this spring. I have an old 1987 Trek that's worked nicely - a few upgrades here and there and it performs well. I'd like to upgrade to brifters. However, it's only 6-speed and therefo 2 Products tagged with "cyclocross frame"Harking back to a time when cyclocross was king of the dirt and mountain bikes were merely a gleam i...
