The question came up on a ride the other day: can one climb stairs on foot faster than on a road bike?

The answer I found, after some googling, is that the winner is too close to call. The fastest time to climb the Empire State Building to the 86th floor is just under 10 minutes, which is a climb rate of

re:Non-drop multi-position handlebar?

I just bought the Nashbar Trekking ATB/Hybrid Handlebar and am curious if anyone here has tried it. It's a rather unusual shape, kinda like a combination riser/flat/north road bar, depending on how it's oriented.
Anyone have experience with it and any infoabout practical considerations?

Considering a Road bike for commuting... good idea?

I'm considering purchasing a new bicycle (Maybe $800 CDN total) to replace my nearly 8 year old Mongoose IBOC Pro mountain bike. I used to use it mainy for offroad but a knee injury stopped that, and in the past few years I've used it purely for commuting (10K's to school and back, 30-40K rides on weekends, stuff like that).

I currently have an 11-23 on my Ultegra double and need more range. Should
I go for the 12-27, or are there shifting issues, etc., that would steer me toward the 12-25. I can ride the 23, but have developed some "over-use" type injuries from riding the hills around here.
