I'd like to replace the chainrings on a Shimano MTB triple crank. I've been looking at Race Face and Real brand chainrings.

Are they compatible with Shimano?

Also, what is the working difference between ramped, and flat chainrings ...
In the real world, does it matter that much?

Will a 20 year old Huret front der work with an STI left shifter (triple) and narrow chain?

If yes, how much better will a modern front der work? It will be used with a Stronglight 99 crankset (47-36-28)
