re:Optimum crank length In category Racing Written by vladzmina Yesterday i was talking to a high ranking UCI rider who told me he had just been tested by one of the cycling testing gurus. He indicated this testing guru suggested his crank length was too long and through out this interesting fact to him: he said that their testing suggested that the optimum crank length for sustained power generation is 162.5 although he realized that this may not be optimum
re:Irony From LeBlanc In category Racing Written by vladzmina Given that LeBlanc has modernized Le Tour to the point where, IMO, epic no longer applies, it seems ironic that the official 2004 TdF poster has jerseys of a retro design from when the Le Tour was an epic sporting event.
re:what's the deal with lombardi/cipollini? In category Racing Written by tcsaklos I see he's moving to Fassa Bartolo, amid rumors of hurt feelings over something Cipollini said. So what did he say? Did I miss a good fight?
re:Crashing in last kilometer In category Racing Written by jbass I was trying to explain to my wife (who knows less than I do about pro cycling) that everyone gets the same time when a crash occurs in the last kilometer of a race (like Stage 1). She asked - do you have to physically cross the finish line with your bike (riding or carrying) to actually get a time? Did Tyler Hamilton actually get across the finish line in stage 1?
re:What NEW Watch Was Armstrong Wearing? In category Racing Written by harpezniac On the last days of the TDF it appears that Lance has a new watch. I am talking about the one he was wearing on his way to the finish line, I guess it is his new cycling watch. It is not the Nike watches that he used to wear from Nike. This one was different. Maybe it is a new model from Nike but I did not see it on any of the sites at Trek or Nike, even the ones that allow you to buy some of
re:Simoni's pride was hurt :( In category Racing Written by caseyjones225 "It's been a frustrating Giro for defending champion Simoni. Afte crossing Friday's finish line at Bormio 2000, he abruptly turned aroun dello Sport reported that he called Cunego "a bastard and an idiot" fo reeling in Simoni's solo attack and then taking the victory on th climbing finish. re:Ideas for improving RAAM... In category Racing Written by jlawhea Some RAAM notions... What if RAAM was self-supported. This would make the event budget within reach of most anyone. (Presently its recommended for success that one have a well-trained team in an RV resulting in a minimal budget of $4000, I recall, for the event.) How to avoid support cheating? By combining RAAM with the major feature of todays super-popular adventure racing: navigation. Have

Douchebag of the Day Award (spoiler-Marzoli) In category Racing Written by Mcgrupp77 It's was toss up between Samuele Marzoli(Lampre) and Francesco Plankert(Chocolade Jacques). Read the attached link to The riders neutralize racing because of dangerous finishing circuit. Fine. As they rolled to the finish line, these cock suckers blast off sprinting. I hope they get their front wheel accidently swept out in the future.
George Bush or Tyler Hamilton? Who is has better bike handli In category Racing Written by Mcgrupp77 George is pretty steady, but cracks under pressure near the finish line. Tyler, on the other hand, is more prone to weather related snafus. Who would you feel safer riding next to?
re:Winning a Sixth Tour de France In category Racing Written by ccsikyr If I'm not mistaken, all of the previous 5 time TdF winners tried to win #6, and all failed. Does Lance Armstrong have a better chance than Eddy, the Badger, or Miguel, etc.? He's never crashed out since his winning streak started. He's never had any really bad luck. He's bonked a couple of times, but not with disastrous results. His climbing superiority was evident only once in the last Td
re:You weigh less or bike weigh less? In category Racing Written by RazorFetish000 Here's a scenario regarding identical twins, Jim and John: Jim weighs 160 pounds and rides a 20 pound bike. John weighs 155 pounds and rides a 25 pound bike. With everything else being equal who should ride faster?
re:David Millar's Personality In category Racing Written by pakkypnut Sherwin and Liggett use euphemisms when they talk about David Millar ("a bit unpredictable, &c). But sometimes he appears to be just plain strange. What's his story?
re:Bicycle racing: Zurich In category Racing Written by cz8s Once again, we interrupt your regularly scheduled Lance, EPO and masters racing threads - tommorow is the date of the world cup race in Zurich. Anyone think Bettini will make it three in a row?
re:TDF Stage 18: Armstrong lost 2sec to Ullrich In category Racing Written by dr_jayjay Just checked online today's 18th stage TDF at OLN website and found out Armstrong leads Ullrich by 1min 5sec (not 1min 7sec). How come? I thought they crossed the finish line on the same peloton. What's up with that????? Or is it another OLN error?
re:Het Volk and Kuurne-B-K : the weather In category Racing Written by Az Right now there's 5-15 cms snow around Ghent. Current weather will continue through the weekend: max. 3°C, and periods of more snowfall. Yesterday several teams cancelled their training ride on the Het Volk course because they considered it too dangerous. I only remember one occasion when Het Volk was cancelled because of the weather.

re:Show me when Johan has ever beaten Magnus in a sprint. In category Racing Written by Sakaji Lucky that old gimp flatted with 5k to go. It saved him the disgrace of getting smoked in the velodrome. Now all those fat, drunk, smelly, Belgians can go on believing their fantasy of Johan taking the win. Magnus: Cheers, man! You can celebrate knowing that you are the deserved winner. Sorry, folks. It ain't the Grammy's, where some closed society votes on the winner.

Pictures on web of tour barrier crash? In category Racing Written by richGD Does anyone know if there are pics on the web of Abdojaporph (sp?) crashing into the barriers during the Tour sprint about 10 years or so back? I've searched for it, but I don't have a clue as to how you spell his name.
re:Dick Ring Retires In category Racing Written by kingfamethrowa Sunday, September 28, 2003 Well folks, Dick Ring has crossed the bike racing announcerâs finish line. During our phone conversation this evening Dick (who is e-mail challenged) asked me to inform the cycling community that he will not be announcing any races next summer. He has decided that after 40 years of weekends being âThe Voice of New England Cyclingâ, he will be spending
re:Cipo and Peta headed for an early Giro exits? In category Racing Written by scottypu Cipo caught Aug's wheel as his leadout man looked back and went bouncy-bouncy, dusted himself off, crossed the finish line and went to hospital with some rash and possibly injured ankle and/or knee. Peta crashed earlier and has injured his coccyx (tail bone, which can hurt like hell, let me tell you), though won the sprint for the stage. I didn't figure either to finish the Giro, now I wonder ho
re:Lack of sponsorship? In category Racing Written by daviddavis Every year during the Tour de France, the smaller French teams send riders out on hopeless breaks in order to give their sponsors some air time. They bring the attention of the public on the sponsor's names. I believe that since they don't have a major team contender, they should make use of the Team Time Trial into a spectacular event for the sponsors. Since you can only lose 2:30 on overal GC

Why OR is getting 500 ccx riders-A halloween Race report In category Racing Written by Why me? For those who missed it. The Johnson Farm cross event had copious amounts of beer, snow, costumes, a chain-saw wielding madman and one cyclo-streaker. The course was really a mountain bike circuit with one set of barriers and a mud pit - followed by a longish run-up. A good portion of the course was washboard like bumps, technical descents through the trees and some steepish climbs. It appear

re:McEwen on Haselbacher In category Racing Written by suzu A little dated, but these comments from Robbie McEwen on SBS TV after the Stage 3 finish are good for a laugh. Somehow I don't think anyone will be approaching Robbie to become foundation patron of the Rene Haselbacher Appreciation Society (or vice versa for that matter): "It was about 300m to go and I was in the wheel of Pettachi, feeling good and ready to sprint, and Haselbacher's come just ...

re:Giro, stage 4 In category Racing Written by *lostindark* Very disorganized sprint. Fassa wasn't able to set up a dominant train so everybody and his mother thought they had a chance. Looked bad from 5 km out. Domina didn't put Cipo in the right place and Bad Things ensued. What the heck happened at the bridge 15 km out? All of sudden guys were going off into the ditch.
re:Ullrich shouldn't have waited In category Racing Written by lagged It's just not right... Lance Armstrong made a TACTICAL ERROR on Luz Ardiden by riding too close to the crowds and crashing. Therefore, Ullrich shouldn't have waited for Armstrong to recover from his mistake. After the race Armstrong commented it was "nice" that Ullrich waited. What he should have said is that it was "nice that Ullrich let me win my fifth tour". Of course, one could argue that

re:Dalton-Dahlonega state (friday) In category Racing Written by DigitalMage My wife and I will probibly be going to Fort Mountain to watch the race head into the "hills". Due to a time crunch I wont be able to go to the finish line and buy any sovieneers (sp?). Will there be vendors selling stuff along the route? re:Why isn't David Millar a hill specialist? In category Racing Written by harris Since he isn't a huge guy, his power:weight must be high so I wonder why he isn't more dominant on hills as he is in TT's? I thought a general rule that all smaller guys who excel in TT's are great hill climbers?

re:he's got guile In category Racing Written by *lostindark* Fabian Wegmann was in the breakaway at the Giro yesterday, and after picking up some easy mountain points, was caught by Cunego and 2 other Saeco riders. re:Can Hincapie win? In category Racing Written by weBphishin If Bettini is such a "sure win", then Georgie should be able to mark him the whole race, follow him when Bettini hits the nitrous button, on a climb, near the end, and hopefully have enough gas in the tank to come around him at the line.
