re:bad experience with a bike shop
In category Tech issues
Written by Pink

Has anyone had bad experiences with bike shops, theres this little biek shop down the road, its been there for over 30 years, and a friend broke a axel on his bike, so we went in to get a new one, the guy we talked to said it would be better to just buy a whole new rim.
For $45, that didnt sound right so we left. A little while before that
I went in and asked what they had for low end dual suspens

re:frame pump does not work on schrader valve

Written by Liff

the other day, i was out with another person.

her tires have schrader valves.

i decided they looked low, so we stopped to add air.

i tried to use my tiny 'sks raceday' frame pump.

it has reversible connections, so i thought, no problem.

but i had never tried it on schrader valves.

doesn;t work.

it doesn;t have a lock to the valve stem.

so what happens is, you have to hold it on all the tim

When I started this thread asking about floor-type bicycle pumps, I was hoping to get good consumer-related information so I know what's out there, and which floor-type air pumps are rated the best by actual comparison with one another (the only way to know the better ones from the worse ones is by actual comparison between them!)

Considering how ubiquitous floor-type bicycle pumps are, and the i

re:presta valve stems bending

what makes presta valve stems bend over?

almost all mine get bent somehow.

not sure if it is floor pump or the frame pump that does it.

or - well this can;t be it - the tire caps.

they get so bent that it is hard to screw them back closed because the screwer thingy rubs the valve body.

i never use a schrader valve plus adapter, always a presta fitting.

re:painting SKS/esge fenders?

Anyone ever paint these fenders? Any idea if acrylic lacquer will stick? Do they need a urethane clear coat? Will it all just crack and/or flake off over time?

Repainting a bike and toying with the idea of doing up a set of fenders while I'm at it.

re:Mini hand pump or CO2 & spare tube or patch kit?

Well I was out for my evening ride about 6 miles from home and had my first flat where I was more than easy walking distance from my house.
Fortunately I carry my cell phone and had my wife come pick me up but think I'd better be more prepared for the inevitable next time.

What do you carry? If I'm going to carry a hand pump I would want one of the very small < 6" variety that would fit in my

The idea of threading non threaded, 12g, CO2 cartridges came to me the other day and I wanted to experiment. Before buying the die, I thought to ask if anyone has done this before and what their experience has been.

What is the die size?
Is there enought metal on the CO2 cartridges?
How do you hold the cartridge in place while turning the die?

re:glueless patches

has anyone had any problems with glueless patches unsticking themselves when they have some pressure put to them?

Had an issue with a repaired pinch flat, where the patch has lifted from the puncture itself...

had just repaired it again, so will see how this goes... just curious if anyone else has had this, or maybe I put the first one on badly...

For those who like to make and own something special, I propose that you build a double acting tire pump, one that will fill a conventional
28mm road tire to 100psi in ten strokes. I built such gadgets for myself and friends who use them for all tire pumping. Check out Carl

I use a Topeak road morph pump, and it works fantastic. Sometimes I'll even blow tubes because I get the pressure to high. The problem is, is that it's a monster. I carry it on the top tube in one of those cheap zefal bags. Now I see topeak is selling a mini-pump, and I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with that pump? Can you pump it above 100 psi easily? I usually use 120 psi in
