Friction shifter on a Campag 10 speed drivetrain
In category Tech issues
Written by Sirhexalot

Has anyone tried friction shifters on a 10 speed Campag drivetrain? I want to set up a TT bike and would like to have friction shift levers mounted on the bar extension,

I am building a time trial bike out of all parts. I am using 52-34 chainrings on an old sugino 110 crankset. I am putting ratcheted friction suntour shifter on the aerobar ends. I cut some old bars and turn them into bullhorns, and am I using aero brake levers below the bars with the levers pointing forward. I am using an old KHS frame with 853 tubing and I will get a forward seatpost for about $

Switching Shimano Triple->Double on 5900 - chainline issu

I decided to convert my Trek 5900 from a Triple to a Double.
So I got a Double crankset, double front & rear derailleurs, and an Ultegra double bottom bracket (109.5).

After setting it up I've found that the 39-11 combination causes the chain to rub on the inside of the big chainring.
I assume this is a chainline issue. Do I need to go back to using a Ultegra triple BB (118.5) even though th

Considering a Road bike for commuting... good idea?

I'm considering purchasing a new bicycle (Maybe $800 CDN total) to replace my nearly 8 year old Mongoose IBOC Pro mountain bike. I used to use it mainy for offroad but a knee injury stopped that, and in the past few years I've used it purely for commuting (10K's to school and back, 30-40K rides on weekends, stuff like that).

I'm just wondering if purchasing a road bike would be more appropriate t

Here's the scenario:

I intend to commute to school, September through April, in Winnipeg. We get lots of snow, put down lots of sand and salt, and don't do a great job clearing the roads. I do not wish to use my relatively expensive road bike for this task, so I'm seeking an inexpensive (sub$200) mountain bike to use (I like the option of studded tires). My commuting destination has no proper

Does anyone have any experience with alternative saddles which do not have a nose like the Hobson saddle?

It seems most discomfort comes from the pressure the saddle exerts in the perineal region. I do not have any pain from regular saddles I am seeking something more comfortable and that does not exert pressure in the perineal area.

What are the disadvantages to saddles without a nose?

In a recent email about a bicycle rear-wheel text that you were asked to edit, you mentioned that you dislike abbreviations like DS and NDS for drive-side and non-drive-side.

When you suggested that right and left were shorter, simpler, and just as good as DS and
NDS, I replied that I'd just seen an odd-looking bike whose chain and gears were on the left.

(I call them gear-side and no-gear-side

re:Campy BB - Square Taper?

I've been using Shimano components for as long as I've ridden and raced road bikes but want to switch to Campy on a yet-to-be-acquired new frame. I was surprised to learn that Campy still uses square taper BBs. Aren't splined BBs supposed to be stiffer/stronger? I'm
210 lbs and put some hard torque down on the cranks - a couple of years ago I broke a BB (ultegra) spindle in half in a crit. Sil
