I've interviewed bicyclists far and wide and never found anyone who has ever seen an elliptical oil ring on the road, much less someone who had any idea of how they get there. They are thin elliptical rings with a major to minor diameter of about pi:1 and between 20mm and 200mm long, the long axis in line with traffic.

I've got two questions to ask:

1) What's the minimum amount of features that you would consider needing on a bike cyclometer ?

2)I just purchased a new bike (Felt F50) and would like to find a good bicycle fitter in San Diego, Ca or even in Los Angeles if that's what it takes.

Ok, so we've pretty well beaten the weight issue to death, with the conclusion of it really doesn't matter that much - a 500g saving is a 500g saving, but the fact that its on the wheels instead of the frame (or drink bottle, or pump, or me) doesn't make any real difference.

So, the remaining motivation to go and spend some of my beloved savings on a new set of wheels
