changing bands on my derailleur

Just bought a used triple front derailleur and it has the wrong size band on it (think the guy pulled a fast one on me..oh well). I was wondering if a person could buy a replacement band for the same derailleur. It is a Shimano 105 FD-5504 and has a 28.6 band on it now (silver and should have been black) bit I need one for 31.8 (hopefully black). Does anyone know if you can buy the band separately

OK, I am going to buy a bike. I need it for transportation mainly and dont know much about bikes. Most days I am going to ride 4 miles (I know that is very short but with an 5-10 lb. backpack and I need to get there preety fast). 2 miles each way from college to my house.
I am also thinking of joining an bike group so I guess it shouldnt just be for short rides. I can only spend around 800 dollars

Creaking Cannondale FS.

I've had a Cannondale FS for about 6 years. Every now and again (year or two) it starts creaking like a dodgy tree, in time with suspension movement.
It is not the front or rear suspension but the pivot.
I cleaned it this weekend. It's a pain to get at as you have to take off chainset and dismantle it, and clean all the bits. They get gunk on them.
Then re-assemble. Takes more than an hour.

What is the equivalent size (metric or SAE) open ended wrench for pedals?

Also, is there a convenient website for steps on installing stems/quills on a threaded steerer? don't know if sheldon has this info, his site is too large to navigate sometimes .

fyi, bought an old roadie on ebay, just need to get the last pieces in place, and tighten it all down.

I am currently putting together the pats list for a new bicycle. While I was planning around the Ultegra group, I was pointed to Avid's road type mechanical disc brakes, for which I found some rather positive reviews.
As I would want to use this bike also for traveling, this is an interesting option. From what I gathered, these brakes are compatible with the Ultegra brake/shift levers.

I would like to attain more "holding power" from a front bar end shifter. I am using an Ultegra FD-6503 front deraileur and Bar-End
Shifters - SL-BS77. How can I get more holding power in the front bar end shifter? As I ride along, especially over bumps, the spring tension of the Front Deraileur pulls the shifter towards a downshift.

Help. My self-extracting crank bolts spontaneously self-ext

I have a travel bike with S+S couplers and self-extracting crank bolts.
Recently, perhaps because of the cold weather, I have found that the cranks keep loosening up. I tighten the bolts as much as I can using a 6 mm hex wrench but the cranks start "clunking" after less than 10 miles of riding.
Can anybody suggest a way to stop the bolts from loosening themselves?

Any clues on how to disassemble a Record front hub?
I've read the service bulletin on Campy's website, but there appears to be a glaring omission.
