Looks to me Japan-style price deflation is taking down prices of engineered bicycle components everywhere. Shimano isn't the only component-maker trying to prop up prices to stay alive. See the recent notice from Chris King, listed below, for another desperate attempt to maintain prices in the market channel. Perhaps new Chinese components will be hitting the USA mainland soon ??

parts today and I encountered the following web page:
http://www.branfordbike.com/shimano/shimano.html . The page says that only a few select online bike stores will be allowed to sell Shimano stuff on the web. A little googling indicates that the authorized stores are Supergo,
Performance, Bike Nashbar, Excel, Colorado Cyclist, and REI. The web page states that any store that is not authorized an

Just sitting here trying to absorb almost 5 days worth of postings, one thing seems to jump out at me. There seems to be a lot of posts slamming things based on price alone.. (SEVEN and
Colnago threads to name two).

I can understand slamming something on market hype, on its technical merit, or lack thereof. But why slam something for being expensive, after all that is a relative measurement.
