re:Testosterone dosing protocols optimized for cyclist in train In category Racing Written by Digit I have been on some medications that suppress the natural production of testosterone. More than 80% of it is now provided by a cream. The script says take once per morning. re:Gearing on replacement bikes In category Racing Written by sTREYnge240 Watching Zabel get up from his crash at the end of today's stage, I see that he had to crank pretty hard to get the gear turning. Seemed about right for a flat stage. (BTW, it looked to me like Zabel just went down on a paint stripe. Not quite close enough for contact, not that it matters.) It seems a simple enough problem not requiring a lot of mental effort, but is there much thought given b
re:Bianchi's are a fine brand and I love them In category Racing Written by jens This is so lame. Nobody cares, and if they did care, why would anyone take your word for it when you publish this in a forum that Bianchi can't reply to? You got the exact result anyone reasonable would expect. re:Hed Stingers In category Racing Written by samstone Do Hed still make the Stinger carbon race wheel? I can find no mention of it as a current product on their Web site. I'm curious to know why. Wear ID When you Ride! In category Racing Written by lordalyc One Year ago today, I was out for a ride in the bay area. As I descended Highway 84 from Old la Honda, a semi was coming around the corner well over the center line. I swerved to avoid him and went into a skid. I started to skid off the road, then back on toward the grill of a second semi that was behind the first. I don't remember exactly what happened next, but somehow I bailed and rolled off r

re:OT: What is wrong with you people? In category Racing Written by abbsci420 This place is so strange. It reminds me of when I go into the high end bicycle stores and people are all full of themselves and try and talk down to you as if they are some know-it-all top ranked cyclist. changing bands on my derailleur In category Tech issues Written by EtherMage Just bought a used triple front derailleur and it has the wrong size band on it (think the guy pulled a fast one on me..oh well). re:Say it aint so Shimano ... PART 2 In category Tech issues Written by travelernj Looks to me Japan-style price deflation is taking down prices of engineered bicycle components everywhere. new chainwheels: what needs replacement? In category Tech issues Written by Teefer I need new chainwheels and want to know how much stuff on the bike needs replacement to accomplish that. I just put on a new chain. Because the chainwheel is worn it skips consistently under load going up a hill. The old chain did some of that, the new one seems worse. The bike shop that sold me the chain predicted the possibility. They took one look at the chainwheels and said they were "wasted,
re:buying older helmets In category Tech issues Written by marsgirlie I wrote to Giro and got a very lawyer-phrased answer, so I'm looking for the real answer (and not a flame war about what kind of protection helmets actually provide). According to manufacturers, the life of a helmet is only about 3 years, but what is that based on
re:How are Integrated Headsets so different? In category Tech issues Written by chatwood2 In reading through past postings I have discovered that many people do not like the Integrated Headsets used by Litespeed and other manufactures. re:halfstep impossible? In category Tech issues Written by DavT My current gearing for my tourbike is a 44-36-22 crank with a standard 12-14-16-18-20-23-26-30-34 cassette. Since my 44 alu needs replacement and I almost never use the high gears I thought about replacing it with a 42 steel one. Also replacing the cassette with an (expensive) custom 13-15-17-18-19-21-24-28-34. This would give me tight spacing between 50 and 70 inch. But looking at the gearchart

re:Derailleur Pulleys In category Tech issues Written by blr I replaced the pulleys on my RSX 8 speed rear derailleur to troubleshoot a drivetrain noise problem. It seems to have fixed the problem and the old pulleys were pretty worn. The replacements are Rockwerks alloy with sealed ABEC 3 bearings. re:Death of a Viscount? In category Tech issues Written by Riet I know, I know: Viscounts (English, mine circa 1975 in the "Trusty" era) get no respect, and for good reason -- the "death fork" recall, the proprietary Viscount-branded components that were good in theory (hubs & BB with sealed bearings) but not durable, the BB not easily replaced by modern ones, the soft dropouts (in some models), and "aerospace" tubing of an alloy no one ever heard of that
Brake hoods for Dia-Compe levers In category Tech issues Written by David Long-time lurker here with a question. I have Dia-Compe BRS Edge "aero" levers (linked to side-pulls of the same name) on an early '90's Specialized Sirrus. The right hood has developed a hole in it. I'm looking for a replacement but have struck out at the LBS's and, either because I'm blind, or it ain't there, I haven't been able to locate anything via the on-line dealers I'm familiar with. D
re:Need fitting advice In category Tech issues Written by abbsci420 After more than ten years of mountainbiking (and lurking on r.b.t for the better part of those ten years) I hit the road two years ago, first with a '96 Klein Quantum II (53 cm c-t), and the last year a '00 Cannondale Cyclocross (52 cm c-t). I opted for a cyclocross because I wanted to try and see if I could use the same bike for road racing (masters fattie, I'm afraid...) and this country's top

Mavic Helium Rim replacement question In category Tech issues Written by The Creator I bought a pair of Helium clinchers on Ebay and the rear rim is missing a grommet and is cracked. Rohloff Hubs: Can't stop slow oil leak In category Tech issues Written by thersupermikey I know this is kind of off-the-wall for 99% of the NG's readers, but in the past I've seen posts from other Rohloff users... so...
