Where to ride in Ottawa? In category General Written by cprinos I've got a couple of days time off, and I'm taking my road bike to Ottawa Ontario for a few under 100km rides. Where's the best places to go? I heard the Gatineau Hills on the Hull side of the river are a great place to go, but that word "hills" worries me a little. I'm not the world's best climber... Is there some kind of bike path that runs along the Ottawa river? Thanks for any help.
re:Leaving a legacy In category General Written by Powered by Sweat When the kids have finished physically growing I was wondering about equipping them with a good quality bike (where quality = longevity) as part of the kit they might keep around somewhere and come back to at some stage. What provoked the thought was restoring my wife's old road bike with a respray to her favourite colour, modern groupset and tyres - after a long way down life's path not riding,
re:Optimum crank length In category Racing Written by vladzmina Yesterday i was talking to a high ranking UCI rider who told me he had just been tested by one of the cycling testing gurus. He indicated this testing guru suggested his crank length was too long and through out this interesting fact to him: he said that their testing suggested that the optimum crank length for sustained power generation is 162.5 although he realized that this may not be optimum
re:local race fees : road versus mountain bike racing In category Racing Written by dansforest I've only seen the budgets for criteriums and circuit races but could someone explain to me why mountain bike racing fees have ballooned and road bike racing entry fees have been more stable over the last five or so years? Was just previewing some of the California races for next season and the average road bike race entry fee is about 50 percent less than the average mountain bike race entry fee

I currently use a steel framed singlespeed road bike for tarmac commuting and have definately caught the drop bar bug. I'm looking to build up a geared bike from scratch but I'm finding the market very confusing, especially frames. From my mountain biking experience I know that I'm not keen on the ride

Crashing In category Racing Written by Sukebe I was cornering, and decided I could pedal through the turn. Unfortunately, the inside pedal hit the ground, and I was sent crashing into the ground. Luckily, I fell on my butt, and tore up my hand (I have gloves, but decided to take them off since I was so close from home and thought that nothing would happen). Besides the wheels, what should I check for? Should I bring the bike into the deale

re:Safe descending? Utah state road 143 In category Racing Written by Tazeko From Brian Head ski resort to Parowan. The sign at the top says "13% next ten miles." The starting elevation is about 10000 feet. The road is pretty uniformly sloped, and feels ugly steep in a car. I don't know if it would be fun either going up or down on a bike. With the steepness, twistiness and thin air at the top it feels like a 60+ mph descent where one struggles to avoid becoming roadk
re:new to road bikes In category Racing Written by Tazeko I'm a rower who's moving to road cycling for cross training and to try some triathlons, but I know nothing about bikes. Ihave about £500 to spend on a basic entry level road bike. re:Kids Road Bikes In category Racing Written by quin Any thoughts on where I can get a kids road bike? I know they're out there (Merckx and Pinarello both make 'em) and there are USCF categories for younger riders, but I can't seem to find anyone that carries them. Nashbar frame...any good? In category Racing Written by slartibartfasz I'm currently strickly a mountain bike rider, but am interested in building a road bike. re:Bike too heavy for MF RR? re:Lower back exercises for out of the saddle road climbing In category Racing Written by saintcarvin In doing some long out of the saddle climbing, say 40 mins up 2000' over 5 miles, lower back fatigue is my limiting factor.
