In every ad I have seen for road bikes, the bike is shown without pedals. In ads, either in magazines or on the web, for bikes that are shipped complete with all parts, they also don't include pedals.

It's got 156,000 miles on it and last week the window mechanism on the passenger side broke. It won't roll up anymore.

I tried going into get it fixed even though the warranty had expired at
36,000 miles, but they wouldn't fix it.

That's a real loss because he runs a very capable and responsive LBS.

I just noticed that Avid's mechanical disc brakes come with 160, 185 or 203 mm rotors. It's claimed that the 185mm rotor has 15% more
"power", the 203 26% more.

Does a larger rotor really provide more stopping power? Why? I could understand less fade due to heat, since a larger rotor would dissipate heat better. Does that translate into more "power"?

I assume that dimension is the rotor diam

I have a couple of older road bikes. One is an old Japanese bike (1978?)
that has 27" wheelsets and gives no trouble in the wheel/tire area. But, the Fuji (1989?) has a real tire problem.

The bike rides fine with 700x23c tires by Michelin that came with the bike.
The 700x20c tires by Michelin also work like a champ.

But, when I put on 700x25c (Michelin and Specialized tried) tires on the back -

According to Giant's website, their OCR2 Small frame fit riders from 5' 2" to 5' 6". Well, I'm 5' 6.5" and I wonder if I should have gotten the Medium frame instead.

But the thing is that the Small frame feels spot on. I guess a half inch won't make much of a difference.

I was at the LBS looking at pedals, and he was showing me a catalog for the 2004 Lemonds.

The upper end bikes have switched to a carbon/853 frame, and some of the lower end frames are now aluminum (he had a 2004 aluminium Tourmalet on the floor). The Ti bikes might be carbon/Ti.

*cheap light 10speeds hit US shores for 1st time
*US bicentennial, with its urge to 'ride across the country'
*high gas prices
*low-traffic backroads
*plentiful public culture: living downtowns, nonlitigious property owners, generous campsite finding, cheap tentsites

My sister was in a race in last month during which the temperature went from about 60 degrees in the morning to 95 degrees in the mid-afternoon.

The bike techs were pumping tires up to full pressure, but a friend advised her to drop the pressure to about 125 psi from her usual 175 psi due to the anticipated heat. (PV=nRT, I suppose).
