Is it worth getting frame cold set? In category Tech issues Written by ccrider I'm starting the process of redoing my 14 year old touring bike, and changing from Suntour 7 speed to Shimano 9 speed in the process. The rear is spaced at 130mm. Certainly I can go with Shimano road hubs, but is it worth getting the rear respaced to 135mm so mt bike hubs will fit? I assume a stronger wheel can be built with the wider mt bike hub. Is there any issue with the 10mm axle diameter
re:10 sp cassette for Shimano Hub/Campy Shift In category Tech issues Written by Lord Licky Does anyone know whether a Shimano 10 sp cassette or an American Classic 10 will work best on a Shimano 9sp hub and Campy 10 Ergo?
Will Campy 10s Shift on new Shimano 10s? In category Tech issues Written by Watters Sorry if this has been covered already, but a quick search didn't answer the question. Will Campy 10s Shift on new Shimano 10s cassettes? In other words, is cog spacing "close enough"? If yes, has anyone tried it yet and what chain works best?
re:Shimano/Campy Compatibility In category Tech issues Written by Sailor Mur I can't purchase all items just yet so... Can a Campy Chorus 04 brifters/triple fd/long rd/connex 10sp chain work on an Ultegra triple crankset with an Ultegra 12-27 cassette. What type shifting issues will occur ?
Shimano 9 Speed Chain In category Tech issues Written by seabeaner Has anyone used some type of reusable link on a Shimano Dura Ace chain ? If so please post what you used if it was successful.
re:Ultegra vs. Dura-Ace? In category Tech issues Written by WalrusOnYourFace If you were spec'ing out a new carbon-fiber bike with Shimano components, which parts of the grouppo would you choose Dura-Ace, and which Ultegra? I understand that at least for certain components, Ultegra might be preferable to DA. Weight is important to me, but the ability to handle 4000-5000 miles a year without excessive maintenance/wear is even more important. I don't want to be replacing
re:Campy cassettes w/o lock ring? In category Tech issues Written by ChaosDRF I noticed on Campy's site that their road cassettes don't seem to come with lock rings. They claim that since freehubs come with them, there was no need to supply them w/cassettes. Is this true? I recently bought a new Mavic Cosmos wheelset on sale (Colorado Cyclist, $200) and they don't appear to have a lock ring. Are Campy cassettes compatible with the Cosmos hub, and if so where do I get a lock
more indexing questions In category Tech issues Written by 3220 ok, here goes ... I'm confused again. I thought I'd understood all the issues with camapg/shimano indexing compatabilitiy. But maybe I'm overthinking or underthinking or something ...... (deep breath) .... You can use a Shimano 9 sp cassette with a campag 9 spd derailleur using campag 9 speed shifters. So far so good. But, since the derailleur itself is not "indexed", and the levers do the wo
re:Campy Ergo's with Ultegra drivetrain? In category Tech issues Written by SquirrelBait I'm building up a road bike and will probably go with Ultegras for the price/performance. However, I've heard that Ultegra STI's are poorly made and fall apart after a year or two, or at least become really pokey, and can't really be fixed. (If this is not true, or if Shimano has beefed up the Ultegras in recent years, please let me know.) So I'm wondering if it's possible to go with Campy Ergo's
re:10 speed chains In category Tech issues Written by paradox I know there has been some discussion on which one to use on Campy prior to DA 10 and I may have missed this, has anyone tried the Shimano 10 sp chain on Campy and is it a recommended alternative to the Campy chain and other subs like Wipperman, IRD and KMC?
Will Chorus and Record Ergos shift Double & Triple? In category Tech issues Written by mangeli Will 10 spd camp ergo shifters work with both double and triple cranks if the proper deraillers are used or do I need to buy a special Triple STI unit like I do with Dura Ace?
re:Go Triple or Just Change Rear Cassette? In category Tech issues Written by MeteoraSession The easiest combination on my road bike is a 39 teeth on front and 23 teeth on rear. How different woud a change to a triple on front be to a change to a 27 tooth cassette on the rear be?
re:8 speed STI levers In category Tech issues Written by fC I recall in an earlier thread a poster requested information on replacing an 8 speed Shimano Ultegra STI lever. These are no longer manufactured - only 9 speed is available. His concern was the cost of an upgrade to a complete 9 speed setup and was quite happy with his 8 speed casette, front & read derailleur and so on. The general concensus was that his only option was the 8 speed Sora STI le

re:Campagnolo/Shimano Compatibility on Front Derailleur In category Tech issues Written by Duke8899 I'm sure that this has been asked before, but could not find in Deja search. I currently have Campagnolo 10 speed group on my commuter bike. I want to swap my double crank for a mountian crank (46, 34, 24). The front derailleur that I have on hand is a XTR M950 ('03 group M952). I want to know if this will work... i.e. does the Campagnolo front shifter take up enough cable to move the XTR der. thr
Question on Shimano Bar End Shifters In category Tech issues Written by ccrider Just got a set of these. The box says they are 9 speed, but I can only hear/feel 8 distinct positions (excluding pushing the lever to it's extremes where it bumps into the housing). What am I missing? The enclosed manual also say it should only be used with a Dura Ace rear deraileur. I assume this is marketing to sell more Dura Ace, and not a hard requirement. My plan is to use it with a Deor
