Any oppinions on MTB tube brands, and the use of "Thorn Resistant" tubes?

Do any MTB tube brands stick out as your favorites? I am interested in the "Thorn-Resistant" tubes made by Performance and by Pyramid.
These weigh about double a standard MTB tube, and obviously they can't be entirely thorn-proof.

What's the advantage of a threadless headset over an oldfashioned threaded one? Is the threaded one stiffer/lighter? Would it improve my riding in any way going from threaded to threadless?

My bikesponsor asked me which frame material I'd like to have next year and he said that Columbus has developed a new steel tubeset called
Niobium. Does anyone know what kind of tubeset is Niobium? Is there any limits for weight or height of a rider? How is it with durability?
